Erin and Ken are what you might call interdependent singer/songwriter solo artists - at least that's the vision for this tour. Erin led the first set, Ken led the second and each did a beautiful job supporting the other. We enjoyed their company, their songwriting and their performances very much! Snedden House Concerts was the second stop on Ken and Erin's Canadian tour that they are undertaking with their five year old daughter. Along the way they will be documenting just how that adventure goes. The clip for Days 1 & 2 is below and includes a little footage from our potluck supper:

These three formerly solo singer/songwriter forest animals [Christopher Arruda (The Lion), Cory Woodward (The Bear) and Ryan McMahon (The Fox)] joined forces in 2012. The result is a clearly deep and varied pool of original songs, hair raising harmonies and powerful rhythms. Though they were a little apologetic to be working out material for their new album on us, the audience was thrilled to be privy to what's coming up and very happy to have obliged. It's not every day you get to be there when new songs are born. http://thelionthebearthefox.com The song below, "Take Me Up", exemplifies something particular about Oliver - his ability to transport the audience, in this case to outer space! We were lucky to host a pre-release show (the day before the official release date) for the album, "Never More Together".
“The Slocan Ramblers put on one of the most vibrant shows of acoustic music I’ve seen in some time. It’s rare for Canadians (especially young Canadians) to play this music with such authority, passion and yet ability for experimentation. Chops galore, and a handsome bunch of fellas” We didn't write this review but we sure do agree with it: Hailed by many as the 'Band of the Summer' in the Okanagan for good reason, The Trips just love to rip it up and have fun with an audience. They take many familiar tunes along with their own originals and give them their own Alt. Bluegrass treatment and the people just love it. The only thing it doesn't get across is that beyond fun, this group has serious musicianship and deep songwriting capability. It was a truly great evening. Thanks Trips!
We met Norm early in our house concert adventure over coffee, sharing our common dream of uniting hearts, building community and promoting live music through house concerts.
Through his music Norm takes his audience on a profound journey across a spectrum of significant themes of the human experience. Along the way we had some fun, got involved and discovered some common friends (and friends who had uncanny things in common). Norm spends only part of his time each year in Kelowna. We recommend getting out to enjoy a performance while he's in town if you have a chance : www.normstrauss.com
UPDATE: Norm was on the German version of "The Voice" in 2015. Check out the beautiful performance here:
Two days after leaving our house Sweet Alibi received the Western Canadian Music Alliance 2014 award, "Roots Duo/Group Recording of the Year". They were also nominated for the Canadian Folk Music Association's 2014 "Vocal Group of the Year" for their album, "We've Got To". They attracted our biggest audience yet treating us to a great show and a sneak peak at some very fresh songs not yet on any album. One thing I've learned through the house concert adventure is that I'm incapable of expressing what a privilege it is to host these shows. It's never more true than with Jonathan Byrd. Thank you to Jonathan for gracing our living room (and our lives) for a second time, this time with the astonishing Johnny Waken on the side. Fish and Bird is difficult to describe. A rock and roll string band. Young old souls. An Artswells reviewer called them, "familiar and fresh". I've got it down to one word, "Oxymoronic". We love them and we can't believe they played our living room this summer somewhere between the Vancouver Folk Festival, Artswells and opening for Bruce Cockburn in Kingsville, ON. http://www.fishandbird.ca

I have been following Scott Cook's world travels for about 3 years so it was an honour and privilege to host him, Bramwell and Melissa for a show. Our audience was over 50% new to house concerts and Scott made believers out of them. I propose that music is one of the few socially acceptable means to speak heart to heart in North American culture. Through his simple songs and generous ways Scott takes an unusually direct route to his listener's heart. UPDATE September 2014: Scott was nominated for Canadian Folk Music Awards New/Emerging Artist of the year for the album "Pass it Along". |
